Iraqi Premier’s Coalition Dominates Parliamentary Elections
As reported by a news agency the coalition ranked first with 46 seats, trailed by the Progress party—led by former Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi—which secured 36 seats.
The State of Law coalition, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, garnered 29 seats, according to figures released by the electoral commission.
The Shia-led Coordination Framework later stated that it had officially identified itself as the largest parliamentary bloc, unifying all participating parties, as noted by a media outlet.
The bloc also created two committees: one tasked with crafting a cohesive national governance approach, and another responsible for evaluating candidates for the prime minister’s position.
According to the bloc, it intends to proceed with putting forth a nominee for prime minister in alignment with constitutional guidelines.
The gathering additionally reviewed “the criteria adopted for selecting the prime minister, in addition to the nature of the required government program in a manner consistent with the political, economic and service-related challenges Iraq faces and in a way that meets citizens’ aspirations for reform, stability and development.”
