Goodfellow AFB Honors Elizabeth Jacobson

The 17th Security Forces Squadron hosted a memorial ruck in honor of Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson, a fallen security forces defender, Sept. 28.

Jacobson was assigned to the 17th SFS at Goodfellow AFB and deployed with the 586th Expeditionary SFS in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. On Sept. 28, 2005, Jacobson made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty when an improvised explosive device detonated near her vehicle.

“A1C Jacobson has not only impacted the 17th SFS and Goodfellow, but she has impacted the defender community as a whole,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Jonathan Estep, 17th Security Forces Squadron commander. “Her sacrifice reminds us of the dedication and determination required of all of us when going down range. She didn’t hesitate to go outside the wire with her team, knowing full and well the threat. She executed her duty without hesitation.”

The four mile memorial ruck brought members of Goodfellow’s joint service and local community together in her memory.

“Let her legacy be the reason you train harder, push further and demand more of yourselves and of each other,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Matthew Norton, 17th Training Wing commander. “That is how we ensure every raider is ready. That is what it takes to truly live our motto: ‘Ever into Danger.’”
